During the late 13th Century, when many Kindred and even entire clans joined the newly formed Sects known as the Camarilla and the Sabbat, several Clans of Kindred chose to not associate with either, and instead follow their own rules and their own agendas. Known collectively as The Independent Clans, or Independents, these clans are: Clan Assamite, The Followers of Set, Clan Giovanni and Clan Ravnos. While several of these clans (Namely the Giovanni and Assamites) have come to formal agreements with the Camarilla or Sabbat, most have maintained their freedom from sect and value it greatly as they strive towards their own unique and personal goals.
