A clan is a division of vampiric society segregated by its discipline set and curse. According to legend, each clan is a distinct lineage descending from an Antediluvian; this also serves to distinguish a clan from a bloodline, as the latter is an offshoot of the former, and has no Antediluvian. Vampires may belong to only one clan, and a few belong to none at all; those vampires whose blood was thin enough to dilute their lineage, who were abandoned at their Embrace, or who were Embraced by a vampire without a clan are known as Caitiff.

There are currently thirteen known clans.
