When creating a character for Coterie Online, you may choose up to seven total points of flaws, and as many points in merits as you have freebies (flaw bonuses add freebie points.) However, the staff believes a surplus of merits and flaws is confusing and unbalancing, and in our game, flaws are much more problematic and will be policed more than you are perhaps used to. No flaw is "free points". No flaw may ever be "bought" off of your character sheet via XP later in the game, nor will changes to flaw mechanics or flaws themselves be negotiable. If you list a flaw in character creation, it is part of your character for the rest of their existence.

If you decide to take merits and flaws, consult the list below. We have constructed a list of all of the merits and flaws from the Third Edition Vampire the Masquerade core book, and have them listed in three groups: "Allowable," "Restricted" and "Banned". Allowable merits and flaws are allowed, Restricted merits may not be approved depending on the circumstances of the sheet they appear on, and Banned merits and flaws will not be considered for approval at all.

Please note that we have only listed 3rd edition core book merits and flaws, and that you may use merits and flaws from other White Wolf material, but every non core-book merit and flaw is considered extremely restricted. If you would like to use a non-core book merit or flaw, we require you to copy down the exact text from the book it appears in, the book title, and the page number on your sheet.
