"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square." - Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest, Act 1

The Son

Vincent

His mother was proud of her son. He was everything they could have wished for in an heir. He was handsome, graceful, poised, intelligent, years of training embodied in everything they could have hoped for. He had his mother’s eyes and his father’s stature; a gem to the aristocracy of the time. They used to say, “he is of good breeding.” All the schooling in the world could not have prepared him for the schooling he would have later learned in death .

The Childe

Sire

"You are a wonderful creation. You know more than you think you know, just as you know less than you want to know." - Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray Ch. 2

Those who knew Darius, knew he was not known as a kind man. Everything he did, he did for a reason, and those reasons were always certainly in his favor. The few that were not; rumors abounded of debts paid or maybe even a few gained, but even then, he found a way to curve the situation to a more profitable arrangement in some manner.

So when it was discovered that he had taken on a childe, there was no lack of intrigue. Many had hoped this would be the Achilles heel they were looking for. Maybe he had grown soft or love struck in the new toy? Maybe his heart had changed?

~In the grit of the revolution he found the heart to save the last remaining son of a noble family from the guillotine. ~

It was easy to sell, to the young at least. Those who knew Darius well, knew better, but for all the rest, he knew how to instruct his young prodigy and he did with a viciousness that would make executioners weep. He kept the young childe under his wing for decades to the point of wondering if he would ever release the new rose into the world.

Then, one day it happened and just as quickly as Vincent had come into their world, he was cast out on his own. There are still rumors of course, little bits of gossip here and there to be asked or questioned, but Vincent still does not answer them and Darius was never known to let information leak he didn’t want leaked.
